But that doesn't stop them from trying. Terrafugia, which I believe is latin for Free of Earth, although I don't speak latin and its a dead language, so I could be wrong. The Transition is a roadable aircraft that has been in development for since 2006 and is supposed to make its first delivery in 2015.
Get your orders in now for a vehicle that is lousy as both a car and an airplane. For less than $300,000 you can own a slow, clumsy car that transitions to a slow, clumsy airplane. Thanks to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, added weight means you'll have to either leave your kids or your bags behind if you'd like to fly anywhere.

Couldn't agree more. The last thing we need is "flying in the fast altitude" pilots. There won't be any "slower traffic keep low" signs up there.

I know, and those assholes never keep low except to pass.

just pull up the NHTSA data for vehicle accidents for 1 month's span. Just 1 month. That alone is enough to show we aren't ready for these.

Don't get me started on the people that can't hold an fucking airspeed. I haven't used my auto-pilot for years because of it.
PICK A KNOT, ASSHOLE

Agreed. You hear about this shit every freakin' year. "It's a flying bicycle!" "Finally, the flying car you've always wanted!"
What venture capital firm buys into solutions in search of a problem? Probably the same company that funded Segway.

I've said the same thing time and time again.
A flying car is just an excuse to have a crappy car and a crappy airplane.

Steve Lehto and I had a pretty good sidebar on flying cars last week. http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/to-me-the-thin…

For that amount of money you could own a faster car and a faster airplane. For that reason alone the flying car will never become a viable reality.
